What American accent do you have? (Best version so far)

Southern

People used to hate Southern accents but now everyone wants one.

I found this quiz on Willowtree’s Shade blog.  I think it’s interesting that so many people that aren’t native southerners, whereas I am, have told me that I don’t sound it.  Naturally, I have certain words or sayings I use that are very much southern, but my general tone lacks that southern drawl.  Well, I guess the proof is in the…quiz? emoticon

don’t be a monkey on a brotha’s back

the mr. works in a retail setting in tires and lately has had some uncouth customers.  they have irritated him so much that he has had to retreat to the restroom to call me and vent. i just commented on my girl summer’s blog in her post about folks needing some couth on one recent incident.  here’s one that happened today:

customer: how much for a set of tires?

the mr.: quotes the price ( i can’t remember all the details)

customer:  does that include a discount?  can i get a discount?

the mr.: umm, no we don’t give a discount

customer:  aww c’mon give me a discount BROTHA.

why are black folks always haranguing another black person about a "hookup"?  and when they don’t get what they want, all of a sudden your blackness gotta be in question.   another customer suggested she shoulda got a "real" brotha to help her when the mr. couldn’t promise to shorten her wait for a tire.  he, in turn, suggested she head to walmart to find one…

Find me on Etsy!!!

I did it!  I setup shop on Etsy.  Etsy is this site for folks who make handcrafted items to sell.  Well, for those who don’t know, I make all natural skincare products. My line, InScents, has been in existence for almost 3 years.  I think I finally found, thanks to Quel, the launchpad I need.  Yes, there’s lots of competition out there but not everyone can say they have truly remained true to being a naturalist.  I use absolutely no preservatives and only pure essential oils, never fragrance oils.  so, stop by my shop (often emoticon) and see what’s hot.

got grease?

Filed under: Hair Crazy, Natural Living

puhleeze get rid of it if you do!

I wanted to try yet another product to moisturize my hair and give my curls some staying power beyond 48 hours.  Why I hadn’t thought to try this before, I don’t know.

1 tablespoon unrefined shea butter

1 teaspoon olive oil (evoo)

3 drops rosemary essential oil

2 drops peppermint essential oil

I melted the shea butter first, then stirred everything, and massage into my hair and scalp. The clincher: I wrapped a wet, heated towel (via microwave) around my hair until cool.  I repeated this steam wrap three times.  If anyone tries this, just go by the thickness and density of your hair.  For once, my hair is moisturized and retaining it as opposed to having product just on it.
