my baby! (you gotta say it like claire huxtable)

the cutest lil’ letters i ever did see…

oh yes! not only can he spell and write "apple" but he can spell and write his name and all of his friends @ preschool.  i’m talkin’ some serious names like zaccary, avery, tyler, cassidy, etc.  they change so quickly, it’s amazing.  just three months ago, i couldn’t get this kid to go stinky in the potty.  he could spell his name then but forget about writing it, it was like pulling teeth b/c he’d get so frustrated, but now look at mommy’s sweet pies…

oops

okay, so now that i’m dry and no longer sore, i can tell y’all what i did saturday that kinda left me a distraught, soggy mess.  i damn near flooded the whole first floor of my house!  what had happened was…

i like to let hot water and bleach soak in my bathtub once or twice a month, right? right.  so, i got that going and proceeded to hook up some more chores.  i was smiling at myself for being all disciplined about the serious cleaning i was about to do because i hate to clean with a passion.  i started the dishwasher, a load of laundry, and poured bleach in all the toilets and sinks.  then, run’s house came on.  so, i was preparing to get to my studying for my ethnic studies class and i right nicely sat down to check emails and watch the show.  well, 30 minutes later, show’s over and my son’s being real quiet in the bedroom.  yes, the one that the bathroom is in that the now overflowing tub is in.  before i could get to the bedroom door he pops up with his fake concern saying: "mommy, what happened?  it’s the water".  meanwhile, that little rascal was soaked!  he had rolled around the completely soaked area of carpet in front of the bathroom door.  y’all, i mean the boy’s skivies were soaked.  i go into instant hysteria.  when i say the carpet was soaked, i don’t mean you had to step on it to see the water.  i’m running around throwing every towel and sheet we own on the floor when i realize that the carpet in front  of the laundry closet right outside the bedroom seems awfully wet from just my running back and forth.  i open the doors and water is running out.  it’s all under the washer and dryer!  then, i happen to catch a glimpse of a puddle on the kitchen floor.  oh lawd!!!!!  what have i done?!?!?!?!?!?!  the water had gone under the walls and come through the bedroom, the laundry closet and the kitchen.

now, the really awesome part about this is that…..this isn’t my house.  it’s my mother’s!!!  we rent it from her and she’s a stickler about things being just so.  and for those who know my mother, you know i was fearing the wrath.  i called my stepdad, not mom, and said i’d really screwed up and flooded the first floor.  so, they got there expecting water to pour out the front door.  my most awesome stepdad said for me to not worry and that this was nothing.  they thought they’d have to file an insurance claim, but he looked around and didn’t think it would be necessary.  he was planning to replace the downstairs carpet anyway, just probably not quite so soon.  anyway, my mom was amazing.  she just played with z and remained calm and didn’t fuss or anything.  oh yeah, the mr. was at school taking a final during all the craziness.  i found a carpet cleaner to rent.  papi and i proceeded to get the water up which is why i am still a tad bit tender in the shoulders and back.

side note: why did the guy i spoke to at the place we rented the carpet cleaner have to give me unsolicited advice about the carpet possibly rotting if the water remained too long?  just shut up and tell me if you have one i can rent now!

soooo, that pretty much ruined the rest of my saturday and plans to grocery shop and to clean out some storage boxes.  needless to say, from now on, i’m going to sit there and do a little sudoku while i wait for that tub to fill up the next time…

my sweet pies is about to make me snatch out my eyebrows and y’all know i don’t have much there.  he is going through pants like water.  not from cute little growth spurts but from crawling on his knees, flipping around like he’s a world class gymnast, and diving onto the floor.  i know, i know, he’s 4 and he’s all boy.  but he’s a bit too much boy for me at this present moment in time.  i just wanna know– where can i find some pants with some reeeeally durable knees?

papi (z’s name for my dad): "buy him jeans only"

me:  "he wears holes in those too, and after like two or three wears"

papi: "oh"

HELP ME! SOMEBODY PLEASE!

omg! omg! omg!

i got to see amel larrieux at the gibson guitar lounge friday night and it was so very awesome.  aaand i actually got to meet her!  this was after she dropped some groove theory ("tell me") and some past and current highlights from her solo work ("infinite possibilities", "gills and tails", "earn my affection") no less.  a small group of us met at the venue.  once it was over, there was a meet and greet for those with vip tix.  well, erin and i decided to take a chance, they could only tell us no.  sure enough, the woman "guarding" the door upstairs was like, "can i help you?  it’s vip only".  erin and i stood there like, "ummm".  then a kind brotha returned just in time to say "they can come in, i’m feeling nice".  i think he was running the meet and greet.  thanx bruhman!

now, i don’t get all emo over celebs, but amel’s music is very important to me.  so after i got to tell her she is a goddess and thank her for blessing us with her gift and a pic, i stood in the doorway and let a tear drop from each eye, then i was cool.  except that my girl’s fiance saw me and started calling me "mush puppy".  i got you bro. moses!

needless to say i’m still stupid excited…
