bright spot

Today was an improvement, slight but an improvement nonetheless. As my mom just schooled me on, I got the “haints”off my back, for a minute anyway. So, I was able to get some groceries (mostly to top us off and to use my coupons) and shop for a few bargains. I had my small buzz killed by the fact that I had missed out on getting some of those new fancy Caress bodywashes for about $0.60 @ Walgreens–they were on clearance. UGH! I’m so disgusted. I digress, here are the bargains I did snag today:

Walgreens
2 Revlon Colorsilk hair colors
total $1.98 (pre-tax)

Kroger - 1st trip
2 Juicy Juice
2 Nestle cookie dough
3 Chex Mix
2 Wheat Thins
2 Oscar Meyer Deli Fresh
1 Kroger Sharp Cheddar
2 Sara Lee Honey Wheat Bread
4 Tropicana Pure Premium OJ
6 Green Giant Valley Fresh Steamers
total $25.83 (pre-tax) (after $10 off for mega sale and $22 in Q’s)

Kroger - 2nd trip
5 Cottonelle 4 paks free
3 Lysol wipes $0.74 (ea.)
1 Ajax dishwashing liquid $1
3 J&J soap buddies free
1 Suave body wash $0.66
total $3.88 (pre-tax) ($9 in Q’s)

I was really pleased with the 2nd Kroger trip.

broke is a place

It’s scary in here. It’s dark and lonely in this place called destitution. This place where broke doesn’t mean I actually have $10 in the bank. This place where my cell phone bill’s been turned over to collections, my utilities are two days from disconnection, the rent’s way past due and my account is overdrawn. Can I get a tiny break. This is no longer a question–a plea, but a statement. I’m beyond questioning, begging, pleading, hoping, wishing. I simply need that elusive break…

Who’s that poet?

Filed under: Blackboard, Daily Blurbs, confessions of a book whore

I was unaware of Elizabeth Alexander until the most awesome Presidential Inauguration of Barack Obama. So who is she?

Read here….
and here.

I must say, I have much catching up to do…

happy new year

Filed under: Zion's Mom, Daily Blurbs

i’m certainly hoping this one is happier than the last. i’ve got a few resolutions, but they’re better left unspoken. it seems the things we don’t talk about is what gets done. i will say, though, i plan to be better, in general.

christmas was uneventful. well…except my husband’s truck wouldn’t start that night and we were almost stranded at my parents. we went from guessing it the battery to the alternator and back again. turns out, it was the battery. a cable had some corrosion…thank goodness for coke. and the battery was shot, but that’s a cheap fix.

z got a betta fish for the occasion, though we don’t make a big deal about christmas. i told my mom that he’s a complete 180 from me at 5. i had that sear’s wishbook and would have it marked up and a list with everything i wanted, on what page and alternative options. he has yet to even say “i want ________ for christmas”. and that’s cool with me. he named the fish char. yes, as in char-lie, but no “lie”. don’t ask. i have no idea and he’s not sharing the rhyme or reason to this name. i talk more about the fish later. gotta get a better pic.

i’ll share one resolution after all, i plan to read more. i have joined the 75 book challenge 2009 group on librarything to keep myself accountable and it’s fun to see what others are reading. i read two books yesterday. my average is usually about 25-30 a year, so i really wanted to push myself. my ticker is over to the right.

that’s all i got for now. maybe i’ll get into some craziness on my birthday…
